I absolutely adore Eric Whitacre’s work, he is amazing as a conductor, composer and public speaker. I feel that as a growing musician and as a young student there is so much for me to learn and most of what I have learnt and loved has come from Whitacre. His music moves me to tears, I had performed both “Sleep” and “Lux Aurumque” with my high school band. I truly look up to him as both a conductor and musician, he inspires me to work harder and has made me love music even more. He inspires me to work hard to want to become a music teacher and educator who not only teaches students but also moves them and instills in the same amount of love for music as he has done for me. His virtual choir and both of the pieces that I had performed together with my high school band under the conduction of Lisa Barth, had moved everyone and for all of us including Mrs. Barth to have been brought to tears was an absolutely incredible experience and I hope to have that type of an experience again. To say to someone that their music has brought you to have that type of an experience and feeling is an incredible thing. This is a video of how he had become driven by music when he was a young boy and how it has influenced him, along with the hardships and triumphs of being a musician, composer and just as a human. He talks about how music affects people and what it does to your emotions and body. I think this clip shows an amazing example of good teaching/learning for the audience that is there to see him. Eric Whitacre does an amazing job answering complicated questions that musicians ask there in the session and does his best to explain the problems that he has had to deal with as a musician and person in life. This is what a teacher is. Not only someone who teaches students math, music or English, but someone who teaches students about life and how to live. How to deal with problems about self, and everything beyond. Even though he is there to talk about his musical career and life, he teaches everyone including viewers online how to get through life and solve both musical and personal hardships. He is an amazing speaker and presenter and an absolutely wonderful musician and composer. The way he conducts is absolutely beautiful and truly empowering. He puts his all in his conducting and you can see and feel the emotion in which he does conduct. I want people to know that people like this do exist and that even though he is labelled as a composer/musician he is still a motivational figure to many.
Hans Zimmer - making of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Soundtracks Part ½ (10:00) Ever since I was younger I have always loved watching and listening to the Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack. This soundtrack has been something that I have loved for so long and always enjoyed listening to. Hans Zimmer is an absolutely amazing composer and musician. He has created music for multiple movies both for Disney and other companies. Pirates of the Caribbean was an absolutely amazing soundtrack and Zimmer did a wonderful job of making catchy and notable themes and tunes throughout all of the movies. Mainly I chose these clips of Zimmer speaking about the soundtrack because it is music that I already have a connection and love for, so I figured it would be awesome to write about and listen to the tracks again (which I had downloaded on my iPod at one point and listened to religiously). I love the orchestration of his music and the soundtrack. The fact that it sounds like no other “pirate” theme, but of a whole orchestra performing something completely different than the original. I am still shocked to this day that someone could possibly create something that intricate and amazing. I can’t bring myself to words to describe how much I love this music and his work and what it means to me to listen to something like this. In this video he isn’t exactly teaching but is talking about again the hardships and struggles that come along with composing, conducting and being a musician. It gives other musicians something to relate to and understand that even famous composers come across issues in their work and have to find ways to solve them just as we have to do. They aren’t perfect as musicians and neither are we. I feel that watching these types of interviews gives you more of a real world perspective on famous musicians since we think that they are perfect. It rationalizes these situations and helps you to understand that even people who are famous come across issues in music and have to deal and solve them the way we do. This is the biggest thing that I have learnt and taken from watching Hans Zimmer talk about his music and career.
